Long Exposure: Day

Do I need a neutral density filter?

Since excessive light can be damaging to the camera sensors or cause inaccurate results in photometer applications, Neutral Density Filters are used to reduce transmission evenly by absorbing or reflecting the portion of the light that is not being transmitted. These filters reduce the amount of light passing changing the color of the scene. They are especially useful in bright light conditions to help prevent overexposure.

Neutral Density filters also allow to highlight a key subject by making the foreground and/or background out of focus. They are also ideal for landscape and nature photography.
